What does being on FLAME wifi mean for my security

The university network can track every move you make online, from the moment you connect to their network to every website you visit afterwards. They can also see what sort of activities you're engaged in - like web browsing, streaming internet radio, playing games, or downloading torrents. In short, the university has complete control over your online activity while you're on their network. The University can read and store any unencrypted data you send or receive over their network, whether you're using wired or wireless. (Even encrypted data can be read and stored, it just can't be deciphered without the key.)

For unencrypted traffic - for example, normal web browsing where the address begins with "http" - they can also track the contents of that traffic. That means they can read everything you send or receive from the internet. As a sidenote, on a wireless network, pretty much anyone else on the same network can do this too, without being detected. So there's something to think about next time you're using university Wi-Fi. :)

For encrypted traffic - such as web banking or shopping - can still be tracked. They can see which website you are connecting to, for how long, and what sort of traffic it is. However, they cannot read the contents of the encrypted data, even if they are allowed to.
They are most likely using some enterprise equipment, like Cisco PIX firewalls, which have capabilities to perform deep packet inspection. With this technology, they can see what type of data you are sending on the network.

This means that your communications are vulnerable to snooping from someone with access to the University's network equipment.
So, if the university wanted to, they could theoretically track your entire internet history while you’re connected to their Wi-Fi network.

Having a Flame-email also suggests having a FLAME Google account.
FLAME has set default passwords for such accounts which is very easy to hack into as long as you have information such as that persons admission ID and their full name
Setting up a 2FA can be a first-step security to prevent people from accessing your FLAME gmail account.
If your email is hacked, it can be used to send spam messages or allow hackers to impersonate you.
For universities like FLAME where getting access to your student ID and full name allows you to get access to not only g-mail but also other university websites like moodle, myflame portal, my courses etc.
FLAME Administrators can see all the information you send in your g-mails- it is not private. Any document, video, keep note or even calendar data can be accessed by the admin.
Since your FLAME g-mail account also comes with a Google account, FLAME can also access information like map-timeline, which all devices you’ve accessed your FLAME account with and your search history.
